Jobs on the Rand Job

In 1985, Steve Jobs, after being unceremoniously jettisoned from the Cupertino mothership (more or less coerced into resigning), founded Next Computer Company. In 1986 Paul Rand built the company’s brand (renaming it NeXT in the process) for a cool $100,000, coming up with this beautiful logo:

For his time, Rand took the role of graphic designer to hitherto unimagined heights.
